Leadership Energy & Effectiveness Assessment

Leadership effectiveness is shaped by more than what you know. It is influenced by how you manage your energy, respond under pressure, develop others, shape team culture, and translate priorities into action.

This assessment is designed to help you reflect on how you are currently showing up as a leader and identify areas where focused development may have the greatest impact.

Answer based on how you have actually been leading recently—not how you believe you should lead.

For each statement, select the response that best reflects your experience:

Rarely   |   Occasionally   |   Sometimes   |   Often   |   Almost Always

Q1. I recognize when my energy is becoming depleted before it begins affecting how I communicate, make decisions, or respond to others. *
Q2. I can distinguish between responsibilities that truly require my leadership and work I am carrying because I have difficulty letting it go. *
Q3. I protect enough capacity in my day to respond thoughtfully when unexpected challenges arise. *
Q4. I understand which responsibilities, interactions, and work patterns consistently drain my energy—and which restore it. *
Q5. When periods of intense demand end, I intentionally create opportunities to recover rather than immediately moving to the next demand. *
Q6. I can establish boundaries around my time and availability without feeling that I am failing my team or organization. *
Q7. My current way of leading feels sustainable over time rather than dependent on continually pushing through exhaustion. *

Self-Awareness & Leadership Presence

Consider how you show up as a leader, particularly during periods of pressure, uncertainty, or challenge.

Q8. I recognize my own emotional reactions and triggers before they influence how I respond to others. *
Q9. I remain present and engaged in important conversations even when I am under significant pressure. *
Q10. I understand how my tone, behavior, and emotional state affect the people I lead. *
Q11. I can adjust my leadership approach when I recognize that the way I am showing up is not producing the outcome I intended. *
Q12. My actions as a leader are generally aligned with the values and expectations I communicate to others. *

Leading & Developing Others

Consider how effectively you build capability in others rather than becoming the person everyone depends upon.

Q13. When someone brings me a problem, I resist immediately solving it and instead help them develop their own thinking and capability. *
Q14. I address difficult performance or behavioral issues directly rather than allowing discomfort to delay the conversation. *
Q15. I provide feedback that is clear enough for people to understand both what is working and what needs to change. *
Q16. I delegate meaningful responsibility—not simply tasks—and allow others appropriate ownership of the outcome. *
Q17. I intentionally develop people who can assume greater responsibility rather than allowing myself to remain the person everyone depends upon. *

Team & Culture Leadership

Consider the environment your leadership creates and how consistently trust, accountability, and effective team behaviors are reinforced.

Q18. People on my team can raise concerns, disagree, or bring forward bad news without fearing how I will respond. *
Q19. Expectations and accountability are clear enough that team members understand what they own and what is expected of them. *
Q20. I address behaviors that undermine trust or team effectiveness, even when the individual involved is a strong performer. *
Q21. I pay attention to the culture my leadership behaviors create—not simply the culture I say I want. *

Change, Strategy & Execution

Consider how effectively you create clarity, navigate change, make decisions, and translate priorities into sustained action.

Q22. I can identify the few priorities that require the greatest leadership attention rather than treating everything as equally urgent. *
Q23. During change, I help people understand not only what is changing but why it matters and what it means for them. *
Q24. I make decisions with sufficient information rather than allowing the pursuit of certainty to unnecessarily delay action. *
Q25. I establish clear ownership, follow-through, and measures of progress so that strategic priorities translate into execution. *
